Wise or Foolish?

Wise or Foolish?

Many of the great thinkers of our time have become fools because they have rejected Yahweh, the Self Existent creator of the universe. They may propose some god concept, such as the source of all things, but they reject the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Talk of Big Bang, stellar dust clouds, black holes, time warp worm holes, the God particle, etc. has a great fascination for many. Scientists search avidly for the unified theory, a theory of everything that will explain how things work. I wish they could settle on explaining how gravity works.

However, God’s power and existence are beyond human understanding.  The great universe that we can see and measure reveals the greatness and majesty of God; the more we see, the more we learn, the more we find we do not know.

Yet, there is a way to know God. Jesus came to reveal God to us in human form. We can learn of Him in the gospels and other historical accounts. Those who reject Jesus as the way to understand God have become foolish in their thinking. In their pursuit of finding a god suitable to their ways, disbelievers turn to many things to fill the void left by rejecting faith in the God revealed in the universe and history.

Apostle Paul spoke of what happens to those who reject Yahweh as God: “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-- his eternal power and divine nature-- have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles."

"Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator-- who is forever praised. Amen."

"Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.” (Rom 1:18-32, NIV)

Those who reject Jesus as God have rejected the evidence of creation and history. Look around and observe the results of the foolishness of mankind. Are we wise or foolish in our thinking? The fruit of our choices made in rebellion against God are everywhere manifest: destroyed homes, sexual immorality, corrupt and non-functioning ethical systems, selfishness, lack of personal responsibility, blame everything on our circumstances, and so forth.

The destroyer is at work. Join the battle for right thinking. We need to go back to the beginning and see the Power of God. We should reject the snake in the grass.
